Friends of Eldon

Friends of Eldon

 Alvaro & William

In this episode of Under Wraps with Eldon, we are delighted to introduce two wonderful friends of Eldon Cashmere: William Thuillier and Alvaro Picardo. William is a distinguished art dealer with over twenty years’ experience, specialising in rediscovering lost masterpieces, from Old Masters to 20th-century works, several of which now reside in museum collections including Tate Britain and the National Portrait Gallery. He also advises collectors and interior designers, offering research, restoration, and framing services. Alvaro, born in Barcelona, brings new life to forgotten objects through his bespoke hand-painted lampshades. Since arriving in London in 1993, he has transformed simple materials into unique works of art, drawing on influences from modern architecture, abstract and Modern British Art, and interior design, creating pieces that are greater than the sum of their parts.

Favourite painting?

W: Matisse - View of the South of France from the Window

A: Diego Velazquez - Las Meninas

Favourite smell?

W: The comforting scent of applewood crackling in the fireplace on a winter evening.

A: The earthy aroma of a fig tree with pinewood right after summer rain showers.

Favourite taste?

W: Dark Chocolate

A: Serrano ham (but the good one)

Dog or Cat?

W&A: Dog!!

Ideal Weekend?

W: Rome with Alvaro and friends is my idea of heaven!

A: A weekend with friends, cooking, going on long walks with Henry (our dog) and spending time with William of course.

Favourite Book?

W: Any Human Heart, by William Boyd

A: Aunt Julia and The Scriptwriter, by Antonio Larreta. Set in 1812, it is a mystery surrounding the death of the Duchess of Alba, who was the lover and muse of Francisco Goya.

Where is your Utopia?

W:  In an alpine ski cabin.

A: Scotland, by a loch in the winter.

Online or in-store shopping?

W&A: We prefer shopping in person and supporting local makers whenever we can. Some of our favourites are Universal Works, Blackhorse Lane, Community Clothing, and of course, Eldon for our cashmere.

Favourite Eldon Striped Scarf colour combo?

W: Anything with blue, especially midnight blue. It’s timeless, elegant, and I always find a way to wear it. Today I have opted for the Bright Blue & Black Combo.

A: I tend to gravitate towards olive greens, yellows and navy. Today I am wearing a very special scarf made by Tommy and it is Yellow & Navy. I love a subtle pop of colour with my accessories.

Favourite place to wear your Striped Scarf?

W&B: London, or any city, really, is the perfect place for a striped scarf. For me, it adds a little extra polish and makes me feel ready for the day. In the countryside, you can throw on anything, but in the city, a scarf like this makes even a simple outfit feel a bit more special.
